Introduction
In the year 1981, Colonel Shiv Ram Singh started the Kothi Rao Hotel after his retirement from the Army. This was the first house hotel in the city.
Alwar is a place well known for its rich cultural heritage. It attracts a large number of tourists each year. The Bala Fort, the Vinay Vilas Mahal, the government museum has its fair share of Indian and foreign visitors each year. But the colonel felt that apart from a visit to these historical monuments it would be a good idea to gift these visitors something else.
He wanted them to get acquainted with the customs and traditions of Rajput society. His primary intention was to get them familiarized with and give them a feeling of Rajputana culture. This is why he set up this Hotel which is presently being run by his son and grandson Colonel Rajinder Singh Narula and Kr. Lavkush Narula.
The guests here have the privilege of living with an Indian family. This gives them the scope to get a feel of the unique culture of this place. Inspired by this, the RTDC has also started this paying guesthouse scheme in most cities. Kothi Rao Hotel is located at 31 Moti Dungari in Alwar just opposite to the LIC building. It is just 1.5 km from the railway station and half a kilometer away from the centre of the city. The bus stand is also fairly close by.

Kothi Rao Hotel provides good accommodation facilities. The rooms are air-conditioned and there are 24 hour hot showers.

A bar and restaurant is there in the Kothi Rao Hotel. It serves the most delicious traditional Rajasthani food. Self catering facilities are also provided.
