Bala Quila Alwar
Bala Quila: Bala Quila or the Alwar Fort stands high on asteep hill and offers a panoramic view of the city from the watch towers of the battlements. The fort bears witness to historic past of valour. It is believed to have been constructed by Hasan Khan Mewati in 1492 AD. It then passed into the hands of the Jats and the Mughals. The Fort was conquered in 1775 AD by Maharao Raja Pratap Singh, the founder of Alwar.
The fort is 304 meters above the city and 595 meters above sea level. It extends about 5 K.m from north to South and 1.6 kms. From east to west. It has 15 larges and 51 small towers which contain 446 loopholes from Musketry. There are 3359 Kangaroos, ach containing two loopholes for musketry. There are six entrances to the fort Namely, Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol, Kishan Pol, & Andheri Pol.
Most of the structures inside the fort reflect the grand style of yore. There are remains of Jal mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Saga, Suraj Kund and Many temples. A forteress built by Alaghu Rai in 1049 AD is also located here.
The fort has beed visited by many Mughal emperors: Babar had spent a night here, Akbar the Geart stooped here on his way to Fatehpur Sikri and prince Salim or Jehangir stayed here for sometime during his exile.
