Ajmer Overview
Overview on Ajmer: Ajmer is the most sacred of all Muslim places of pilgrimage in India. In 1193, after Prithviraj Chauhan had lost Ajmer to Sultan Mohammed of Ghori, the Persian saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, who had come with Ghori, settled and preached here. Ajmer situated in the green oasis wrapped in the barren hills has been a witness to an interesting past. Ajmer city is one of the major pilgrimage centers located on the shore of the Ana Sagar Lake flanked by barren hills. Every year a large number of pilgrims visit the city to seek the blessings at the famous Dargah Sharif, the tomb of a Sufi saint, which is equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims. On your Ajmer tour you can visit a number of other monuments belonging to the Mughal era.
